In preparation for Thanksgiving and the holiday season, read LCNV learner Alla’s essay, using English that she learned in LCNV classes to describe her favorite Thanksgiving traditions. If you are thankful for accessible adult English literacy classes, please consider donating to support LCNV’s classes throughout a 400 square mile radius in Northern Virginia at lcnv.org/donate. Thanks to a generous challenge grant funder, any increased amount from your last gift and all first time donations will be matched up to $2,000.
“In every country, people have their holidays. Every one is different and is connected to their history, religion, and culture. In the United States I met a remarkable holiday—Thanksgiving. I love this holiday with its focus on national history, the family, and yourself. The basis of Thanksgiving is the ability to thank and feel the need to thank and that is valuable for the soul. On this day people hurry to their family and say thanks. Already we have celebrated three Thanksgivings with our family.”
