Today is LCNV’s 4th year partnering with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services to host a Naturalization Ceremony at the James Lee Community Center in Falls Church, VA. Hosting these ceremonies gives LCNV learners the chance to witness that special moment when immigrants become naturalized U.S. citizens and compliments the civics lessons they receive in class. The ceremony being a significant milestone in the lives of the new citizens, we take the time also recognize the importance of how learning English helped them to integrate into the community and make the U.S. their home. Hai-ping talks about how learning English helps her to better connect with people around her as well as communicate her thoughts.

“Since taking English class, I have communicated with people around me. I can share my young age memories with my teacher, introduce delicious foods of Taiwan with my friend, share my experience of raising my kids with my granddaughters (my kids are their father and uncles) and understand doctors’ instructions.

It is very essential to voice and share my experience and information in English with people around me.

I am very grateful to have the opportunity to learn English with my teacher, Karen.”
