Thanks to you, we have reached our goal!
This year, A Taste of Literacy raised $61,950 from 393 donors, greatly surpassing our goal of $50,000! Thanks to you, LCNV is able to support families and adults who are not able to read, write or speak in English, so they can access employment and educational opportunities and more fully and equitably participate in the community, especially during these unconventional times.
Welcome to A Taste of Literacy 2021,
proudly presented by Anthem HealthKeepers Plus!
A Taste of Literacy is a virtual celebration that will raise awareness and critical funds to open doors of opportunity to adult English language learners in Northern Virginia. This year's theme, "Look How Far I've Come", will feature stories from our learners whose hard work to learn English has helped them to overcome obstacles and reach their goals, even during a pandemic.
Our current crisis only highlights the importance of language education for learners who often work in unskilled and low wage jobs. 80% of our learners make less than a living wage and represent many of those who are out of work or required to work despite being at risk. Join us in this virtual experience and hear the powerful stories of LCNV students, win fun prizes, and support LCNV and our efforts to offer equity and opportunity to English language learners around the region. Literacy is a Survival Skill!
Check in after 7:30 am EST for a welcome message from Jennifer Galloway - LCNV's Board Member!

Look How Far They've Come!
Glen and Nasrin began their English learning journey as instructor and student in the classroom, with Nasrin knowing only a few words in English. They continued to work together after classes transitioned online, bonding and learning from each other. After an introduction from her teacher, Nasrin, mother of six, shares her hopes for the future and why she continues to study even when finding the time and space can be a challenge while her children learn from home.
