The English Empowerment Center is delighted to announce that we have added a new staff member, Francisco Quesada! Originally from Spain, Francisco is joining our team in our new part-time Data Entry position. As our organization continues to grow, we require more staff assistance to ensure we can continue fulfilling our mission effectively. We are excited to welcome Francisco to EEC and cannot wait to see all that we are able to do together!

This past semester, four learners earned Northstar Digital Literacy badges in Basic Computer Skills and Information Literacy! These badges demonstrate their mastery of essential digital literacy skills. These learners were supported by the teachers and class aides in the Destination Workforce® Intensive English and Workforce Readiness summer session. Congratulations!

More than ten learners in our Intensive English and Workforce Readiness summer session got their first U.S. library card! Helped by their instructors via Zoom, these adults got digital and physical library cards to be able to check out materials for themselves and their families and promote reading as a family affair.

English Empowerment Center’s Community and Donor Relations Manager Lisa Vaughn, Instructional Design Manager Soo Park, and Director of Academic Programs and Student Services Xavier Muñoz presented on our Destination Workforce® class at the Virginia Department of Education’s Career Pathways event. They shared valuable information about our program and led a discussion on designing IET and workplace literacy for English language learners.

We are happy to share that Social4Good, an organization of women passionate about helping nonprofits in the community, has completed a textbook distribution again for this fall semester! They picked up 76 packets of textbooks and class materials to hand-deliver to English language learners enrolled in EEC’s online classes. We are so grateful for their continued support and the connections they are building with our learners.
