They completed the Guest Service Gold® training and passed the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute exam. This certification recognizes their readiness to provide high quality customer service. Congratulations! Two more training cohorts are underway – one virtual and one in person. Contact us to stay informed of future training opportunities.

Nine English Empowerment Center learners from Afghanistan, Ethiopia, and the Ukraine earned Northstar Digital Literacy badges demonstrating their mastery of essential digital literacy skills in one or more of these areas: Basic Computer Skills, Windows, and Google Docs! These learners were supported by the teachers and class aides in the January-March session of the Destination Workforce® Intensive English and Workforce Readiness classes.

Faculty Support Manager, Melissa Rea, and Student Services Coordinator, Juan Perez, presented on English Empowerment Center’s student advising program at the Maryland Department of Labor’s Adult Education Virtual Training Institute in February. Watch the recording to hear how English Empowerment Center’s student advising boosts learner motivation and retention and empowers them to set their own educational or career pathway.

Destination Workforce® teacher Darlene Fahrenkrug earned the Digital Literacy Achievement badge from World Education! This badge recognizes her for contributing to the new Digital Skills Glossary, comprising activity slides for digital literacy vocabulary and an accompanying instructor guide.

Volunteer and Outreach Manager, Amy Tristan, and Office Administrator & Student Liaison, Marizol Rojas, have been recognized as unsung heroes in the February 2023 issue of PROGRESS, a publication of the Virginia Adult Learning Resource Center! We celebrate how important their work is and the many ways they make things happen for learners, volunteers, and staff at English Empowerment Center!

The English Empowerment Center is pleased to have been recognized for our collaboration with the Fairfax County Health Department and their objectives to prevent and mitigate the spread of disease. Throughout the pandemic, we encouraged public health and continued to inform the community of COVID-19 policies and resources.
