Additionally, we offer a variety of volunteer opportunities that allow you to get involved and give back to the community. There are many ways to make a meaningful impact and be a part of the positive change we're creating together at the English Empowerment Center. By offering these various ways to give, we hope that everyone can play a role in strengthening our community.

Volunteer Opportunities

Another way to give and support our mission is through the gift of time and expertise. The English Empowerment Center greatly values the skills and passion that our volunteers bring and we truly could not do our work without them. There are many ways you can get involved including becoming certified to test English language learners with Best Plus 2.0 and testing incoming students at class registrations, becoming a class aide, volunteering as a student advisor, assisting at class registrations, lending a helping hand with a variety of tasks in our office, and much more. We believe that everyone has something unique to contribute, and your time and skills can make a real difference in the lives of our students and our community.

The English Empowerment Center is hosting an upcoming Best Plus 2.0 training session, offering you the opportunity to become certified in assessing English language learners. As a vital part of our pre-semester preparations, we conduct speaking tests for adult learners during registration. In these assessments, volunteers or staff members engage learners in a series of questions, helping to determine their appropriate class placement. This process not only aids in accurate placement but also allows volunteers to connect with learners, extend a warm welcome, and create a comfortable environment for newcomers while gaining insights into diverse cultures. Many of our dedicated volunteers who engage in Best Plus 2.0 testing find it to be an immensely rewarding experience and enjoy fostering meaningful connections within our community.

If you would like to get involved as a volunteer, please contact our Volunteer & Outreach Manager, Amy Tristan, at ATristan@EnglishEmpowermentCenter.org.

Whether through financial contributions or volunteering your time and expertise, your contributions to the English Empowerment Center are invaluable. Your involvement fuels our work, helping us offer affordable English language education to in turn create a more inclusive and empowered community. Together, we can continue to build bridges of opportunity through English language education.
