Access to English Education: A Variety of Class Options at the English Empowerment Center

At the English Empowerment Center, we are committed to breaking down barriers to education and making English learning accessible. Understanding that our students have different commitments, we offer classes at various times throughout the day, morning, afternoon, and evening, so that adult learners can find a class that best fits their schedule. Our beginning-level English classes are available at multiple in-person locations, providing learners with supportive environments where they can build their English language skills. For those seeking an accelerated learning experience, our Intensive English and Workforce Readiness class meets four hours a day, four days a week, allowing students to immerse themselves in the language and rapidly advance their skills. For learners enrolled in an Intensive English class, we offer a laptop loaner program, allowing students to borrow an EEC laptop for the duration of the semester to ensure that technology is not a hurdle. Additionally, our conversation drop-in classes, held once a week, give learners the chance to practice their speaking skills in an informal and supportive setting.

One of the most accessible options we provide is our online English classes. These classes are a great fit for individuals who may face challenges attending in-person sessions due to transportation, work schedules, childcare responsibilities, or other barriers. By learning from the comfort of their own home, students can develop their English skills while balancing their personal and professional lives. Our online classes provide the same high-quality instruction as our in-person offerings, with interactive lessons, engaging activities, and support from dedicated instructors. EEC learner, Sara, shared that her online class instructors, Stan Citron, Corrie Paeglow, and Linda Debrewer, “are amazing and very helpful, they are doing a great job with us. They helped me a lot to speak well and get better. The most important [thing is] that they are positive teachers and qualified.”

To further support our learners, we are excited to offer additional supplemental tutoring sessions this semester. Tutoring is available both in-person at multiple locations and online, allowing students to receive personalized assistance. These sessions help reinforce classroom learning, address individual challenges, and boost learner confidence in using English.

At EEC, it is our goal to equip learners with the tools and support they need to succeed. By offering a variety of class formats—whether in-person or online, intensive or drop-in—we continue to strive to make English education more accessible.

Registration for our summer semester of beginning-level English classes will begin in May. EEC’s summer English class schedule will be coming soon.
