We were delighted to begin our Destination Workforce® classes with Fairfax County Waste Management this past fall semester. The English Empowerment Center’s Destination Workforce® courses focus on equipping adults with the necessary English skills to enhance their employability, enabling them to engage more confidently and actively in the workplace. Tailored to align with the needs of the employer, these classes aim to cultivate the language skills essential for career advancement. These forward-thinking organizations acknowledge the considerable potential within each of their employees and choose to make an investment in their futures through professional development opportunities.
The academic staff at the English Empowerment Center take pleasure in crafting customized curricula for our Destination Workforce® classes. As they delve into understanding the unique needs of employers within the community and tailor the curriculum to address specific language education essential for professional and personal growth, the English education they provide benefits employees both in and out of the workplace. This fall, we were thrilled to provide targeted and effective language instruction that directly aligns with the diverse needs of the employees of Fairfax County Waste Management.
Our partnership with Fairfax County Waste Management is just one of the many great examples of how supporting English language learning comes full circle. The work of Fairfax County Waste Management employees makes a tremendous impact on our community, keeping it clean and healthy while their recycling and environmentally-responsible trash disposal strives to achieve greater sustainability in our community. By investing in the futures of these employees, Fairfax County Waste Management is working to create an empowered community starting by providing opportunities for their employees to thrive.
After an extremely successful first semester, we are excited to continue to work with these dedicated employees again in our upcoming semester of Destination Workforce® classes. Class participants expressed their appreciation to supervisors for providing this educational opportunity, showed up to class engaged, and with a positive attitude. They shared that their route issue communication and confidence in conversation have improved since the start of the class. Fairfax County Waste Management staff are eager for additional English classes and even sparked an environment of growth for all as some staff fluent in English were inspired by the hard work of their coworkers and have expressed a desire to learn Spanish.
Beyond providing English language education, these Destination Workforce® classes promote an environment of understanding and empowerment. By improving their English, employees can better connect with the community and coworkers, leading to greater feelings of fulfilment and pride in the work they are doing. Improving coworker communication and confidence can make a lasting difference in the efficiency of operations at Fairfax County Waste Management and provides a work environment conducive to success and personal growth.
