

EEC instructor Nancy Bonano brought her level 2 class to the Charles E. Beatley library on Monday night. Six learners who did not have library cards got their first card!
Ten participants in the English Empowerment Center’s Destination Workforce® Intensive English program and the level 3 class in Herndon attained the Certified Guest Service Professional certification this May. They completed the Guest Service Gold® training in our spring Integrated Education and Training (IET) cohorts and passed the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute exam. This industry-recognized credential recognizes their readiness to provide high quality customer service. Congratulations!
Five learners earned Northstar Digital Literacy badges in Basic Computer Skills, Windows 10, and Phone Keyboarding Basics and Logging In this spring! These badges demonstrate their mastery of essential digital literacy skills. These learners were supported by the teachers and class aides in the online Beginning English classes, during Digital Wednesdays tutoring in Falls Church, and in the Destination Workforce® Intensive English and Workforce Readiness – Beginner and Intermediate classes. Congratulations!
Amy Tristan was the first ever recipient of Volunteer Fairfax’s Peoples Choice Award! Thank you all for your support and votes for Amy. We are incredibly proud of her contributions to the community and EEC’s volunteer program.
Student Services Coordinator, Juan Perez, completed the National Career Development Association’s 120-hour Facilitating Career Development training at the Virginia Community College System! He is using this training to refine and enhance EEC’s student advising services.
COABE invited EEC staff members Melissa Rea and Xavier Muñoz to repeat their conference presentation on Integrating Mental Wellness and Trauma-Sensitive Practices into Adult ESOL for a broader audience. They presented an hour-long webinar for 205+ participants on July 22 to share about EEC’s recent work fostering well-being.
