The English Empowerment Center is thrilled to announce the publication, printing, and distribution of our SNAPSHOT Resource Guide 2024. This guide supports English language learners by providing them with essential information about various community resources such as food banks, health providers, transportation, housing services, and much more. Our SNAPSHOT Resource Guide is updated annually to ensure that it reflects the latest information on available resources in our community. This year, thanks to a generous grant from the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services, we were able to print 2,500 copies of the guide which we have been able to distribute to all in-person classes as well as participants in our online Family Learning Program (FLP) classes.
Our dedicated instructors have been actively incorporating the SNAPSHOT Resource Guide into their lesson plans to maximize its impact. FLP instructor, Cassandra Kramer, has developed a series of engaging activities designed to familiarize learners with the guide and help them develop important skills, such as alphabetizing and sourcing important information. Some of these activities include a page number hunt, scavenger hunt, category scramble, and a "my resources" exercises. These exercises encourage learners to branch out into their community and take advantage of many helpful and engaging community resources.
The SNAPSHOT Resource Guide is just one example of our commitment to the success of our learners and equipping them with the tools they need. As we continue our journey of empowerment and growth, we are excited to see the positive impact the SNAPSHOT Resource Guide will have on our learners and the broader community.
