Letter from the Executive Director – Winter 2018

The season of generosity is upon us, and all of us at LCNV are grateful for another successful year. As we look back on our accomplishments during 2018, I would like to share my gratitude with you, the people who make this all possible. Your commitment to literacy makes our programs and our community stronger.

Thank you to our volunteers who are committed, passionate, intuitive, and give our learners a boost of confidence with every interaction. The 449 of you who gave over 18,000 hours this year are heroes to all of us at LCNV!

Thank you to our community partners, ranging from community and resource centers, houses of worship, schools, and apartment complexes, to a day labor center, libraries, and other non-profit organizations that offer us classroom space, strengthen our collective efforts to reach those most in need, and collaborate with us to create pathways for our learners to advanced education and employment opportunities beyond the beginning level.

Thank you to our individual donors who make it possible to keep the programs we offer affordable to beginning level, often underemployed learners, and enable us to offer the next new class or take part in the next unique innovation to best serve our learners. We commend you for your vision and generosity!

Thank you to our corporate, foundation, and government supporters who recognize the importance of LCNV’s work for social and economic equity, workforce development, and family literacy.

Thank you to our learners for entrusting LCNV as you take the first step to learn English. You inspire us every single day to continue improving and expanding to best fit the needs of our vibrant, diverse, and talented community.

As this year comes to a close, please consider giving this holiday season so that we can continue to offer critical support and skill-building for our current and future learners. Thanks to a generous anonymous donor, first time LCNV donations will be matched, and donation increases from current supporters will also be matched (up to $2,000)! Your gifts, time, and ideas made it possible to serve nearly 1,500 learners from 81 different countries and representing 52 different languages across a 400 square mile radius of Northern Virginia in 2018. Imagine what we can do together in the coming year.

With my deepest gratitude and wishes for a joyous new year,

Roopal Mehta Saran
